Youth Services Associate

Job Description:

Do you know the title of each Harry Potter book off of the top of your head? Get excited about helping kids create? Consider joining the Youth Services team at The La Grange Public Library! The La Grange Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, customer-focused individual familiar with children’s literature to join the busy Youth Services staff.  The Youth Services Associates are responsible for a variety of tasks in support of the Youth Services Department, which serves children birth through sixth grade. Duties include assisting patrons with reference and reader’s advisory, assisting with collection development, developing engaging storytimes, and conducting programs as assigned.  

We are looking for someone with the ability to engage children and interact with their parents and caregivers in our busy, vibrant department.  (Position Description)  

The La Grange Public Library serves a community of 15,550 in the suburban Chicago community of La Grange, Illinois.  The library’s mission is to provide the community the inspiration and the means to learn, explore, and connect throughout their lives.

Hours: 25 hours/week, including some evenings and weekends 

Requirements: Two years of college coursework in a related field and at least two years work experience, including work with children and/or customer service.  Must be available evenings and weekends.

Salary: $13.65/hour, plus some benefits
