Reference/Programming Librarian

Job Description: The La Grange Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, customer-focused Reference Librarian to join the busy Reference and Reader Services department staff. Duties include collection development, reference and readerís advisory, creating print and online bibliographies and newsletters, and assisting patrons with computers, eReaders, tablets, and other technology. Traditional collection development, reference, and readerís advisory skills should be equally matched with knowledge, creativity, and enthusiasm for service to the public. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal and technological skills and be comfortable with the web and social networking.

The La Grange Public Library serves a community of 15,550 in the suburban Chicago community of La Grange, Illinois. The libraryís mission is to provide the community the inspiration and the means to learn, explore, and connect throughout their lives.

Hours: Part-time position (25 hours/week), including some evenings and weekends

The successful candidate must be personable, innovative, adaptable, and open to new ideas. Qualifications include an MLIS or MLS degree from an ALA-accredited library school and at least one year of work experience in a public service environment. Strong technology skills are a must.

Salary: $18.49/hour plus benefits
