Job Description:  The La Grange Public Library is looking for a knowledgeable, enthusiastic person to manage the Patron Services Department. The successful candidate will be customer-oriented and interested in collaborating with the management team to develop innovative new ways to serve the public.

The Department Head supervises 12 part time staff and is responsible for providing high-quality service in all aspects of serving the public, managing public service staff, circulating materials (physical and digital), using and recommending improvements to the integrated library system, managing cash and credit card transactions, and creating reports and maintaining records. The La Grange Public Library serves a community of 15,550 in the suburban Chicago community of La Grange, Illinois.  The library’s mission is to provide the community the inspiration and the means to learn, explore, and connect throughout their lives.

Hours: Full-time (37.5 hrs/week), including one evening per week and some weekends.

Requirements: The successful candidate must be innovative, customer-oriented, independent, and flexible.  Qualifications include (1) an MLIS or MLS degree from an ALA-accredited library school, or bachelor’s degree from a college of recognized standing and two years of management experience; (2) three years of customer service experience in a library or retail setting; and (3) at least one year of supervisory experience.

Salary: Minimum $40,602/year plus benefits
