Job Description:

The La Grange Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, customer-focused Reference Librarian to join the busy Reference and Reader Services department staff.  Duties include collection development, reference and reader’s advisory, creating print and online bibliographies and newsletters, and assisting patrons with computers, eReaders, tablets, and other technology.  This position also plans, coordinates, attends, and evaluates programming to serve the needs and interests of adults in the community.  The full Position Description for this job gives more details.  

Traditional collection development, reference, and reader’s advisory skills should be equally matched with knowledge, creativity, and enthusiasm for service to the public. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal and technological skills and be comfortable with the web and social networking.
The La Grange Public Library serves a community of 15,550 in the suburban Chicago community of La Grange, Illinois.  The library’s mission is to provide the community the inspiration and the means to learn, explore, and connect throughout their lives.

Hours: Full-time position, 37.5 hours/week, including some evenings and weekends.   
 
Requirements: The successful candidate must be personable, innovative, adaptable, and open to new ideas.  Qualifications include an MLIS or MLS degree from an ALA-accredited library school and at least one year of work experience in a public service environment.  Strong technology skills are a must. 
 
Salary: $18.49/hour plus some benefits.

The La Grange Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented individual who has a passion for getting materials out to our patrons as soon as possible. If you are always on the move and like to ensure that materials are in the correct location, this is a great opportunity to let your skills shine. 

Pages are responsible for shelving library materials, keeping shelves in order, emptying book drops, setting up meeting rooms, and performing a variety of assigned duties in support of the department.  We are looking for someone with enthusiasm for working with the public.  Flexibility and attention to detail are also important.

Hours: 6-13 hrs/week, primarily daytime with some evenings and weekends
 
Requirements
The successful candidate must be at least 16 years old and have completed a minimum of one year of high school. Requirements include the ability to work independently and to sort materials alphabetically and numerically.   This position requires reaching, lifting, bending, carrying light loads, and pushing full carts of books.  
 
Salary: $8.42/hour
