Charity Gallardo, current director of library experience at the Rockford Public Library, has accepted the position of executive director at the La Grange Public Library. Gallardo is scheduled to begin her new role in La Grange on Wednesday, August 8. Until then, interim executive director, Stephen Bero, will remain in his position and oversee day-to-day operations and the first-floor renovation, scheduled to begin in early June.

In addition to her work at the Rockford Public Library, Gallardo served as the branch manager at the Brook Hollow Branch of the San Antonio Public Library in San Antonio, Texas, and as a librarian at the Pasco County Library System in Florida. Gallardo earned her master’s degree in library science and bachelor’s degree in information science from the University at Albany.

“I was beyond impressed by the Library and its amazing, dedicated staff and board during my visit to La Grange,” said Gallardo.

“This is a dream opportunity for me and I’m truly thrilled to be joining the team. I look forward to being a part of growing the many wonderful ways the Library serves the community.”

The library board of trustees began a national search for the new executive director with the assistance of Bradbury Miller Associates when former director Jeannie Dilger announced she had accepted the position of executive director at the Palatine Public Library beginning in January 2018. The board conducted its final executive director candidate interviews on Tuesday, May 29.

"The board of trustees is excited to announce the hiring of Charity Gallardo as its new executive director,” said Laurie Braun, library board president.

“The Library will continue under the capable leadership of interim executive director Stephen Bero until Ms. Gallardo arrives. We expect a smooth transition during the first-floor renovation project."
