Greek gods and goddesses. World War I and II. What more could one want in historical fiction? The four main characters (Hazel, James, Aubrey and Colette) represent the varied backgrounds of young people coming together for love and friendship during World War I. Meanwhile, Aphrodite and Ares meet up in secret during World War II and are caught by Aphrodite’s husband, Hephaestus. To gain Hephaestus’ forgiveness, Aphrodite shares the stories of the four young people she helped along and the beauty of their relationships that far outshine that of any god or goddess.
